5 Ways to Plan a Memorable Reception
Your special day often flies by and before you know it, you and your spouse are off to a honeymoon and starting your lives together. Our staff here at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club - a premier Phoenix-area wedding venue - have tips to help make your wedding reception memorable.
After the food has been eaten and drinks have been consumed, what will you remember from your wedding? Photography (and video) are ways to cherish and hold onto your precious wedding memories. Hiring a professional photographer is highly recommended, however you can also utilize your guests to capture views of your wedding from a variety of perspectives, and they’ll enjoy taking part in the action.
Photo booths are a fun creative way to offer amusing and goofy photos, some vendors will even print photos right there at your reception, giving guests a souvenir of the evening. Take advantage of social media’s popularity by creating a specific hashtag for your event and encourage patrons to use it in their posts. Another option is creating a unique Snapchat filter for your wedding that your guests can use on your special day.
When planning your reception, selecting the right music is a large factor in setting the mood. Whether it’s a live band or you decide to go the DJ route, selecting just the right one is crucial for a memorable reception.
When choosing a band, be sure to address how they will handle breaks in their playtime, nothing is worse than getting the dancefloor going, and then the band stops to take a break. Some groups will play filler music via speakers, or have members of the group take turns resting. When selecting a DJ, communicate what sort of styles and genres you would like to be played, ensuring you are on the same page and get exactly the musical backdrop for your big day. Above all, it’s important for your hired talent to play danceable music that everyone will enjoy.
Let Guests Take a Break
Provide your friends and family with a place to escape the dancefloor. Designating a lounge area with light music and plenty of seating options will give guests who need a moment off their feet a comfortable place to rehydrate and enjoy conversation without having to shout.
Quench Your Guest’s Thirst
Nothing gets people on the dance floor like a bit of liquid courage. Adding an open bar to your reception is a great way to keep guests happy, and it’s a catalyst for good times. To lower the cost, consider offering a few beer and wine options. Another fun treat, and great way to make your reception memorable, is to create a signature drink. You and your husband/wife will have fun concocting one or two cocktails that represent your relationship and that your guests will enjoy. Often couples create drinks that match the color theme of their special day.
End of the Night Treat
Holding a special event at the conclusion of your reception will incentivize your guests to stay till the very end. Allowing guests to partake in a sparkler exit, firework show or other dramatic ending will cap off your memorable evening. You can also give guests party favors/gifts to take home upon leaving, or serve additional Hors d'oeuvres, light desserts and coffee to keep the party going.
With these suggestions in mind, you and your guests will enjoy your reception in the moment, and for years to come. Click here for more information on hosting your big day at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club.
