Meet LPGA Tournament of Champions: Lindsey Weaver
At Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club, we are privileged to have several professional golfers practice on our award-winning Jack Nicklaus design course throughout the year. Our membership roster includes several LPGA players, four of which are teeing up for this year’s Bank of Hope Founders Cup tournament.
We sat down with LPGA champion, Lindsey Weaver, to talk shop and learn how she prepares for big tournaments.
What about the upcoming Founder’s Cup tournament are you most looking forward to? Just playing so close to home and being able to sleep in my own bed! It is also the first tournament in the United States, so it is great to be back competing domestically.
Anything about the course or the tournament that you think will be challenging? It can get very firm and hard, especially in the afternoon. It is a very different experience from morning to afternoon.
Any specific strategies in mind going into the tournament? You have to make a lot of birdies at this tournament because scores are always low here, so it is easy to get down on yourself. My goal is to just stay positive and give myself as many opportunities as I can.
What have you been doing to practice/get ready for the tournament? I have been playing the course often. I have also been working on a lot of putting at Superstition Mountain because the greens are quick there, so it is similar to how the greens will be at Wildfire.
What is your connection with Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club? I lived in Arizona growing up for 8 years before going to college. When I first moved out here was 11, I was actually an honorary observer during the LPGA event when it was at Wildfire. In retrospect, I think it is so cool to now be able to say I am on the LPGA and that Superstition Mountain is my home course.
How would you describe the club and/or its courses? Superstition Mountain is just absolutely beautiful. Everything about it is first class, from the golf courses and practice facilities, to the landscape, immaculately designed clubhouse, great food and wonderful staff. I am in awe every time I am out there. It is such a nice, peaceful place to be able to practice and play every day.
If you can’t make it out to watch Lindsey hit the greens in person, stop by Superstition Mountain’sand join us in cheering her on.
