Most people don’t think summer in Arizona is the optimal time to enjoy a round of golf, but the truth is, the game of golf is fabulous year round in Arizona, and the summers offers more opportunities to play at great courses.  There are many things to consider before you plan your next visit to our Nicklaus-designed golf courses during the summer months here in the Valley of the Sun.  Read on for 3 great tips on staying cool and comfortable and keeping your skin out of those rays!

1. Sunscreen
The key to a great day on the links takes some planning.  When packing your golf bag, make sure the sunscreen is SPF 30 or higher to give you the best chance of decreasing your risk of developing skin cancer.  Sunscreen sticks are great for the face, nose and ears and should be SPF 50.  Liberally apply the sunscreen before your game and every nine holes or so thereafter.  Take it up a notch with Zinc in your sunscreen that will protect you from both UVA and UVB rays.

2. Clothing to Protect Your Skin
Clothing plays a huge role in protecting your skin and staying cool.  Wear loose fitting fabrics that breathe, choosing clothing in light colors will help reflect the sun’s rays.  The Golf Shop has great options in great styles to keep you covered this summer.  Long sleeves and slacks offer the best protection and many companies are expanding their clothing lines to offer items with natural UV blocking and SPF built right in to the fabric making it easier than ever to keep your skin healthy.

3. Don’t Forget Your Top Half!
Now that we’ve covered the basics, let’s not forget some of the most important; your head and eyes.  Choosing a wide-brimmed hat will offer instant shade and keep the sensitive areas covered including your neck, ears, and face.  Finish your look with a great pair of sunglasses that will protect your eyes from UV light.

Though most days in Arizona are sunny, cloudy days can also cause skin damage, so whether you’re playing golf in the sun or shade, keep yourself and your skin protected.
