Home Decorating Color Trends

We checked out some of the top paint companies to see what their top picks for interior home colors are for this year. White is the overwhelming winner, but if you like a pop of color, don’t worry — we found something for everyone.

Sherwin-Williams: A hue symbolic of new beginnings, Alabaster (SW 7008)
is Sherwin-Williams’ 2016 Color of the Year. At a time of interconnected commotion and overstimulation, Alabaster offers a sense of personal solace and revival to weary minds. It is the true neutral to set the tone for 2016.

Valspar: Why have one color when you can pick four! Valspar presented four palettes—Simply Perfect, Comfort Zone, You Do You, and Good Company. "There's no question that gray is the dominant shade of the decade and today's default neutral," says Color Strategist Sue Kim.

Glidden: The experts at Glidden named Cappuccino White (45YY 74/073) the brand’s 2016 Color of the Year. A calm, sensitive and creamy neutral, Cappuccino White creates a sense of delicacy and graceful design that promotes wellness, purity, mindfulness, balance, privacy and peace.

Olympic: Want a pop of color? Olympic® Paints’ 2016 Color of the Year is the loud and impactful Blue Cloud (D48-5). This daring, adventurous hue supports a larger-than-life persona yet adds the perfect pop to various styles and palettes.

Dunn-Edwards: We checked out what Dunn-Edwards had to say. Their 2016 color and design report tells us that interior color in 2016 should exude confidence with strong, darker midtones mixed with milky pastels, a look inspired by history and romance. Natural monochromatics pair with softened, reflective hues in retro influences, while farmstead-born, sundrenched and weathered coloring are reminders of the desert western landscape. Globetrotting spicy colors interplay with neon brights in decadent atmospheres, while a wealth of blues provides a base for clean, spare design.
