Spectacular golf is always available at Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club on our two Nicklaus-designed golf courses, even while the courses undergo state-of-the-art bunker renovations, we are proud to continue offering 18 holes of play for our members. As we head into summer, we caught up with our Mike Malaska Golf Academy team of instructors for this month’s round up of tips and drills to improve your golf game.

Pre-Golf Warmup
While the hotter weather may have you tempted to shorten your pre-golf warmup, crucial preparation is important to maximize your performance on the course. Consider arriving to the course well before your tee time to ensure a relaxed and comfortable warmup. After loosening up your back, arms and legs with light stretching, head to the putting green for five to 10 minutes. This will help you get a feel for the speed of the greens for the day, and help you dial in your mental aspect of the game.

Next, spend 10–15 minutes chipping around the green to a designated target. Doing so will help you read how firm the greens are and determine future ball roll, and you’ll have a better understanding of the best greenside shots during play.

Lastly, begin your full swing warmup with additional stretching. There is no need to swing with maximum effort on the very first attempt, ease into your power. We suggest taking multiple swings at 25% of your swing power, then slowly work your way up to 50%, 75% and eventually 100%.

Path Putting Drill
Strengthen your putting accuracy with the Path Putting Drill. Head to the putting green, find a flat stretch of turf and place two clubs parallel from each other on the ground, wide enough for you to place your putter between them. Set the ball at one end and then putt, trying to keep the ball rolling straight. If you hit one of the clubs, your swing is not following a straight target line. Aim to keep the putter head low and be sure to follow through. Before you know it, you will be sinking lengthy and accurate straight putts on the greens.
