Here at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club, we’re eagerly awaiting the upcoming Junior Achievement Open 4 Business Golf Tournament. The Open has been the number one golf fundraiser in Arizona for the past five years, raising money to support programs for Arizona students. As the tournament quickly approaches, here’s some information about Junior Achievement (JA) and why it’s important for students across Arizona.

What is Junior Achievement?
JA is a nonprofit organization devoted to teaching young students work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills. Formed in 1919, JA was developed with the goal of teaching kids about business and how the United States economy functioned. The organization began as an after-school high school program allowing students to set up businesses to produce and sell products and services.

Since then, JA has continued to expand across the country offering both in-school and after-school programs. With a purpose to inspire and prepare children to succeed in a global economy, more than 243,000 volunteers across America donate their time to educate, prepare and help JA students grow into young professionals.

The Impact in Arizona
JA Arizona serves an average of 83,000 youth each year, with nearly 60 percent coming from low-income households. Students who participate in JA programs demonstrate an average increase of 34 percent in critical thinking skills and graduate at a higher rate than the Arizona average. The impact extends beyond their time in school and one in three alumni credit JA for influencing their career choice and earn an average of 20 percent more than the general population.

JA Open Golf Tournament
Every year, the JA Open generates funds for the programs based in Arizona. Raising nearly $400,000 last year, this tournament is the leading nonprofit golf event in the Valley. The JA Open also attracts more than 275 executives and employees from leading Arizona companies, making it a great networking event. This year’s tournament will be held Dec. 14. Participants can enjoy food, drinks, auctions, contests and entertainment. JA Arizona also fundraises through year-round bowl-a-thons and a TopGolf tournament in Tucson.

Superstition Mountain is excited to be hosting the 24th annual JA Open and we look forward to watching this year’s competition unfold on our beautiful Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course.
