Custom Home Landscaping

Introduction

Under section 4.2.18 of the Superstition Mountain Owners Association Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions (CC&Rs), [LINK] maintenance of landscapes and plantings is a requirement. This ensures that new landscape installations are maintained and cared for on an ongoing basis. This also ensures compliance with requirements for the well-maintained, natural Sonoran Desert look of SMCC neighborhoods and villages. This policy represents the culmination of the landscape design and installation process for new home builds.

 Longevity Policy

  • Approximately 12 to 18 months after a new build landscape installation has been approved, SMOA will re-inspect the property to ensure that:
  • The landscape has been cared for
  • Weeds and non-approved plants have been eliminated, and no new ones have been introduced
  • Dead plants have been replaced like for like
  • This policy extends to and includes all outdoor hardscape, including but not limited to driveways, walkways, patios, pool decks, putting greens, and other elements of the hardscape.
Landscape is one of the defining features of Superstition Mountain. From when you enter the community, until you pull into your driveway or the club parking, the beauty of the natural Sonoran Desert is all around you.

The Landscape submittals are reviewed by Kathy Braun, who is a current member of the DRC, and Anne Ellis, the Design Review Committee's Consulting Master Gardener. Together, they will present their landscape recommendations at the monthly Design Review meetings for review and approval. Kathy and Anne are assisted by Assistant Manager and Design Review Coordinator, Nicole Abate. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Nicole Abate.

If you are currently involved in the Design Review process on a new home or a significant remodel, Landscape Review is part of the process. Please find below the most current versions of the Approved Plant List in PDF format and the Landscape Spreadsheet/Landscape Calculator in Excel format. Please note that the landscape spreadsheet has locked cells, with notes in the editable cells to assist you in completing it. If you have any questions on how to use the calculator, please contact Nicole Abate.
